David R. Sheaffer
Expected graduation May 2017
Summer Experience: Michigan Court of Appeals Research Division (Lansing) & Michigan House of Representatives Policy Office
David took an fairly non-traditional path to the legal profession. He spent 10 years working in every capacity of the food service industry, beginning in high school and continuing while he put himself through college. David is an amateur chef, freshwater-angling enthusiast, and avid outdoors man.
While working on a degree in natural resource sciences at Washington State University, he realized a passion for regulatory compliance and resource management policy. Interestingly, when he was studying for the LSAT, David was also working as a wildlands firefighter in the state of Idaho and often had to review his study guides in a tent by headlamp.
After getting married in 2013, David and his wife moved to Lansing, MI. For the next year, David worked with local advocacy groups and in the state senate, as he prepared for law school. Since beginning his legal education at MSU Law, he has climbed the ranks to his current position near the top of his class. In addition to being a member of Law Review, he is also a Charles H. King Scholar, a member of the Billings Constitutional Law Moot Court Team, and an E-board member for two student organizations.
